HISTORY

Capitol Event Center is located in The Historic MAY Building at 1020 11th Street in Sacramento, California. The building also includes 1029 K Street, the former site of Pyramid Alehouse. Sutter Capital Group, a locally-owned real estate investment firm that specializes in discovering and reviving the potential in Sacramento real estate, purchased the building in 2014. The purchase of the property included the highly respected CSAC Conference Center, located on the second floor. This space was utilized as a location for advocacy groups to hold conferences and instructional courses. The CSAC Conference Center became a well-known gathering place for the Capitol Crowd and beyond. Shortly after the purchase, Sutter Capital Group began updates to the Conference Center to include an aesthetic transformation as well as a complete update to the Audio Visual system.

In January of 2024, Sutter Capital Group and its management company, Hammer Real Estate Group, sold the Capitol Event Center to longtime Events Director, Marques Davison and his wife Jenny Davison. This would serve as the brick and mortar expansion to their 2020 established company, Davison Consulting & Design. The couple continue to invested significant capital to maintain the historic space. Marques was once the Porter for CSAC and worked for Hammer for a decade after the M.A.Y. Building was purchased, he continues to, “get if from the mud” now as an owner and operator of the sophisticated event venue. The business is dedicated to creating space for association and nonprofit groups throughout the Sacramento Valley and California abroad. With the venues proximity to the State Capital, they’re essential in accessing government stakeholders for policy meetings and lobby days.

As a practice, the Davison’s are passionate about partnering with other exceptional and diverse, family owned businesses like their own.
